Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, Newsies is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his work. Last night, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas spent a perfect night out on Broadway at the hit musical Newsies. During intermission, they were reading through their Playbill, discussing the cast and noting the work of Tony Award-winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli. At the end of the show, they joined in the immediate standing ovation and went backstage following the performance to meet the cast, taking photos with leads Corey Cott and Kara Lindsay. (more...)

NEWSIES Launches Nationwide Audition Tour in Philadelphia, 2/8

Newsies has just announced nationwaide auditions that start this weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Accoridng to the casting notice the show is seeking: males, 16-22, of all ethnicities, who are strong and technically trained dancers who also tap and sing well. Acrobatics/tumbling a plus. This past weekend, Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman of "So You Think You Can Dance" attended a performance of Newsies, the Tony Award winning new American musical, and visited with the cast backstage afterwards. Andy Richardson to Replace Andrew Keenan-Bolger as 'Crutchie' in NEWSIES, 3/11

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Andy Richardson will replace Andrew Keenan-Bolger as 'Crutchie' in Newsies, which is currently playing at the Nederlander Theatre. As BroadwayWorld previously announced, Keenean-Bolger will soon leave the production to star in the pre-Broadway engagement of Tuck Everlasting at Boston's Citi Performing Arts Center. Richardson, who currently plays 'Romeo' will assume the role on March 11. (more...)
