This is one of the most exciting times to be Executive Artistic Director at Theatrical Outfit, watching our production of FLY ignite audiences with theatrical thrill and soulful inspiration. Every day, I receive messages from our audience expressing gratitude for this premiere. The administrative staff, crew, front of house staff, ushers, trustees and, of course, the actors, are all visibly energized by the combustion created in the theater with this true American story.
It struck me as soon as we opened how timely this history is for us now. A racial barrier of hatred was bridged in Alabama in order to defeat the global threat of Hitler. Today, when political debate disintegrates into a useless hateful shouting match, our ability to solve common and threatening problems by civil and civic discourse is lost.
This is a time to remember what it means to stand united and the consequences of remaining divided. The Tuskegee Airmen now need to train us how to fly.
So, to spread the needed inspiration and due to sheer popular demand, FLY is now officially extended until March 10.
Perhaps the only thing more exciting and thrilling of the experience of FLY, is helping young people to go for the flight as well. Because of the generosity of our "Help a Kid to Fly" donors, our very first performance in a series of six for Atlanta Public Schools' Middle School students began today.
A special thank you to all who donated to our Help a Kid to Fly campaign - just $40 sponsors one student from an Atlanta Public School to attend Fly for FREE. We still have nearly 1,000 kids in need of a sponsor. Visit www.theatricaloutfit.org/ways-to-give to make a donation.
