The Suzi Bass Awards, Inc. revealed nominations for the 2013-2014 Atlanta professional theatrical season this evening to theatre patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party, which rotates venues, was hosted this year by Actor's Express in the King Plow Arts Center of Atlanta. Guest announcers included performers Christy Baggett, Laura Cole, Danielle Deadwyler, and Tess Malis Kincaid.

With school back in session and families settling into the school year, Aurora Theatre announces an amazing array of classes for students this fall. The acclaimed Aurora Theatre Academy offers sessions for any student. From beginners to advanced and covering students in 1st-12th grade programs as well as, an Adult Acting Class. Aurora Theatre Director of Education, Jaclyn Hofmann, has put together an incredible team of teaching professionals, who you may have spotted on stage around Atlanta or on screen anywhere from Georgia Lottery commercials to HBO.

The theatre-going experience at Serenbe Playhouse is as exciting as anything I've ever seen. It's not the excitement manufactured by the tricks and effects of modern theatricality (not that I don't love those as well), but this is the type of excitement that you feel in your bones. STAGE DOOR PLAYERS, Dunwoody's own professional theatre company, continues its 40th Anniversary Season with Miracle on South Division Street by Tom Dudzick, directed by Dina Shadwell. The show opens on Friday, March 21, 8pm curtain, and runs until April 13. The cast features mother-son duo Susan Shalhoub Larkin and Tony Larkin (on stage together for the first time!), Kara Cantrell, and Kelly Criss (who just directed SDP's On Golden Pond). Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presents its annual 2014 Spring Gala 'In Here, Life Is Beautiful' on Monday, March 10th, 2014 at the Hammerstein Ballroom (311 West 34th Street, NYC). The evening will be a celebration of Academy Award, Olivier and Golden Globe winner Sam Mendes, who will be presented with The Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theatre.

Douglas Hodge stars as Willy Wonka in the brand-new production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London. Directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes, the story is brought to life with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman (Grammy winners for Hairspray; Smash), with a book by award-winning playwright and adaptor David Greig (The Bacchae; Tintin In Tibet). The spacious lobby allowed guests to enjoy drinks, hors d'ouevres and the chance to congratulate their colleagues. Guest announcers, Atlanta's own funny men Bryan Brendle, Bart Hansard, Tony Larkin, Aurora Theatre artistic director Tony Rodriguez and Scott Warren shared the list of nominees while playfully riffing on the 2011/2012 Atlanta theatre season.
