Florida Dance Theatre, Polk County's only professional dance company and training academy, is celebrating its 18th anniversary. Formerly known as Lakeland Ballet, Florida Dance Theatre was founded in 1993 by artistic director, Carol Krajacic Erkes. It was originally intended only as a training school, but Ms. Erkes was impressed by the talent available in the Polk County region; and while recognizing a lack of dance programming in the area, she formed Polk County's first, and to this date, only professional dance company.

Opening tonight is THE TESTAMENT OF MARY starring Fiona Shaw in an acclaimed return to Broadway. The Michael Wilson-helmed THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, starring Cicely Tyson, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Vanessa Williams, opens tomorrow, 4/23. Tony and Grammy Award-winner Bette Midler stars in the one-character play based on the life of Hollywood agent Sue Mengers, I'LL EAT YOU LAST: A CHAT WITH SUE MENGERS opening tomorrow at the Booth Theatre. The Bobby Cannavale-led THE KNIFE opens tomorrow, followed by THE ASSEMBLED PARTIES starring Judith Light opening on Wednesday. Later in the week, JEKYLL & HYDE and ORPHANS host their opening nights on 4/18 while the critically acclaimed MACBETH, starring stage and screen fave Alan Cumming, opens on Sunday, 4/21. Also not to be missed is the The Rascals' Once Upon a Dream' concert engagement - On Broadway thru May 5 only!
