The Michael O'Neal Singers Present LET MY PEOPLE GO, 5/6 & 7

The Michael O'Neal Singers join with the Tri-Cities High School Chorale, the Georgia Spiritual Ensemble, and Sharon Fisher and Ira Jackson, Jr., Narrators, to present Donald McCullough's Let My People Go! A Spiritual Journey Along the Underground Railroad.

Celebrating "two of America's most venerable cultural traditions-the African-American Spiritual and the Underground Railroad-Let My People Go! explores the resourcefulness of slaves who cleverly created code songs by burying hidden messages within much of their music, which not only inspired fellow slaves to attempt escape but instructed them in how to use the Underground Railroad in their flight for freedom."

The Visual and Performing Arts Magnet program at Tri-Cities High School has been an award-winning program for almost 20 years. Known for its musical versatility, the Tri-Cities HS Chorale has been featured at numerous conferences, and conventions such as the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), and the National Association of Black Educators (NABE).

The Georgia Spiritual Ensemble was created to further the enduring legacy and tradition of the Negro Spiritual. The GSE sings traditional and arranged spirituals that have been popularized throughout the twentieth century. The Ensemble is dedicated to sustaining the tradition of the Spiritual by bringing to life the feelings, emotions and musical genius found in this uniquely American art form.

The Michael O'Neal Singers organization is comprised of a symphonic chorus of 135 voices and a chamber ensemble of 28. Established by Dr. Michael O'Neal in 1989 and based in Roswell, MOS performs a diverse repertoire ranging from classical masterworks to jazz and musical theatre standards.

Narrators for this production are Sharon Fisher and Ira Jackson, Jr., professionals from the Atlanta area.

These extraordinary collaborative concerts take place Sunday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m. at Roswell United Methodist Church in Historic Roswell, and in a free performance at Tri-Cities High School in East Point on Monday, May 7
at 7:00 p.m.
