Kate Buddeke and More Star in GOOD PEOPLE at Alliance Theatre, 1/16-2/10

GOOD-PEOPLE-at-Alliance-Theatre-20010101

Atlanta's nationally acclaimed ALLIANCE THEATRE will stage GOOD PEOPLE – the award winning play by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire. GOOD PEOPLE is a funny and insightful, tough and touching story of fate, class divisions and identity. The ALLIANCE THEATRE production will be directed by Jennings Hertz Artistic Director Susan V. Booth and will play on the Alliance Stage, January 16 – February 10, 2013.

Set in South Boston, "Southie" Margie Walsh is living a pay check to pay check existence as a single mom caring for her disabled adult daughter. When Margie is fired from her job, she approaches a high school boyfriend who made it up and out and into his own medical practice for help. She soon realizes that not everyone wants to be reminded of their humble beginnings. GOOD PEOPLE wrestles with the question of whether our lot in life is determined by choice or circumstance.

"Atlanta loves to talk. To chew on a big, meaty, provocative moral question. GOOD PEOPLE, although fiercely funny, has at its heart one of those you-have-to-talk-about-it-at-the-water-cooler plot reveals that simply demands that you take a side," said Susan V. Booth, ALLIANCE THEATRE Jennings Hertz Artistic Director. "And it's a smart enough play that you're guaranteed to find yourself in conversation with someone who saw it differently, and that kind of debate is how we reveal ourselves to one another."

Making her ALLIANCE THEATRE debut, Kate Buddeke will play Margaret Walsh, the hard-luck mother trying to establish a better life for herself and her daughter. Buddeke, a favorite actor on Chicago stages, is also a Broadway, TV, and film veteran. Broadway credits include Superior Donuts, Gypsy, and Death of a Salesman.

Brenda Bynum returns to the Alliance Stage as Dottie, Margie's foul-mouthed, bingo-playing landlady. Bynum last appeared at the Alliance as Violet Weston, the family matriarch in August: Osage County, was widely praised by audiences and critics.

The cast also includes Atlanta actors Andrew Benator as Stevie, LaLa Cochran as Jean, and Kristen Ariza as Kate, as well as Los Angeles based actor Thomas Vincent Kelly as Mike. A prevalent force in Atlanta theatre, Benator is on stage at the Alliance now in the role of Jacob Marley in A Christmas Carol. He too appeared in the Alliance's production of August: Osage County. Making his ALLIANCE THEATRE debut, Kelly is an established stage, film and television actor best known for his work on the television series 24 as Dr. Marc Besson. He is also a founding ensemble member of the Seanachaí Theatre Company in Chicago.

Performances are Tuesday through Thursday at 7:30 pm, Fridays at 8:00 pm, Saturdays at 2:30 pm and 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm, January 16 – February 10, 2013 on the Alliance Stage.
