Horizon Theatre Company Receives $10,000 Spring Local Giving Grant

Sprint recently announced Horizon Theatre as one of the 2012 recipients of its Atlanta Local Giving Program. The Atlanta Local Giving Program awards Sprint Foundation grants to area non-profits that support Sprint's philanthropic focus areas of youth development, arts and culture, and environmental stewardship. Horizon received a grant for $10,000 toward its Education and Outreach Program.

Horizon's Education and Outreach Program is divided into four programming focuses: the Family Series, New South Young Playwrights Festival, the Apprentice Company, and the Intern Company. These four focuses allow Horizon to reach and influence a broad range of age groups. Horizon's Family Series focuses on kindergarten through 12th grade students both as performance participants and audience members. The New South Young Playwrights Festival targets developing high school and college student playwrights and provides them with a free weeklong playwriting residency. Horizon's Apprentice Company offers early career theatre artists with a nine-month learning intensive filled with master classes, workshops, and performance opportunities. And, Horizon offers early career professionals in- depth practical training through a structured internship program.

Horizon is excited to continue the important work of educating the next generation of Atlanta artists and audience members with the support of Sprint.

Horizon Theatre Company, 1083 Austin Avenue, connects people to each other, the community and the world through professional, contemporary theater. For more information about tickets, group sales, or to receive a season brochure, call 404.584.7450 or visit horizontheatre.com.

Horizon Theatre Company is grateful for the sponsorship by the Turner Voices initiative of Turner Broadcasting, who provides generous support to the 2012 season. Additional major funding is provided by the Fulton County Commission under the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council. Horizon Theatre is also supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. The Council is a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional funding is provided by the City of Atlanta, Office of Cultural Affairs.
