Atlanta Symphony To Perform 'Charlotte and the Music-Maker,' 2/17

Staff Conductor Jere Flint will lead the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in "Charlotte and the Music-Maker" with the Platypus Theatre Company on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center. This family-friendly concert will expose young audiences to the variety of sounds and instruments within the orchestra.

"Charlotte and the Music-Maker" features the orchestra and a storyteller working together to tell the tale of a musically-inquisitive little girl who plays the trumpet on a cardboard tube, the xylophone with two knitting needles, and the drums on anything that bangs. However, her musical talents are not appreciated at home, so she runs away and meets the Music-Maker - an odd little man who shares Charlotte's passion for music. He takes Charlotte on a magical musical journey through the orchestra, exploring the sounds and colors of the instruments, and the exciting possibilities that music has to offer.

Featuring an original score by Alain Trudel, selections from standard classical repertoire, and up-beat arrangements of well-known popular tunes, as well as narration by Platypus Theatre Artistic Director Peter Duschenes, this concert for actor and orchestra focuses on the different families and individual instruments of the orchestra.
